  • 1 – 2 tsp. chili powder
  • up to 1 Tbsp. brown sugar (optional)
  • 1⁄4 cup barbeque sauce or 1⁄2 barbeque sauce, 1⁄2 ketchup

Brown bacon bits in a heavy skillet. Remove from pan. Add ground beef and onion and brown.

Combine all ingredients.

Cooking methods:

  1. Crock-pot
  2. Bake in a covered casserole pan in the oven at 325 (300) degrees for one (two)hour(s).
  3. Heat thoroughly in large kettle on top of the stove.

Substitutions and Notes:

  • Use instant minced onion in place of chopped onion
  • Use 1⁄4 tsp prepared yellow mustard in place of dried mustard.
  • Use a plain barbeque sauce such as Kraft.
  • Add barbeque sauce to taste. You may prefer more.
  • The more ketchup you use, the less brown sugar needed, since ketchup is sweet.
  • Remove the fat chunks from the beans before cooking.
